Friday 5 (a little late)

I promised a while ago to let you know of a few songs that I have been fancying over the past week or so…Better late than never, I suppose…

1. The White Stripes – Rag & Bone
This tune from their newest, Icky Thump, standsout asfun in an album full of downright weirdness…”This place is like a maaaansion!”…

2. Modest Mouse – March Into The Sea
The opener from We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank is the most nautical track on the album, with Isaac Brock spouting the lyrics like the pirate that he is

3. Arthur & Yu – Absurd Heroes Manifestos
From In Camera,a neat album that I just got around to listening to…their onesheet describes them as a mix between Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood…I guess everything old is new again…

4. Simple Kid – Lil’ King Kong
His first album came out almost three years ago, and the follow up is due out in the states this August…Is the album (which I got yesterday) worth the wait?…I certainly think so…

5. The Velvet Underground – Mean Old Man
From the least-known of all VU albums, Squeeze, this song could apply to any record label exec, especially one that forces poor Doug Yule to use the VU name on what is essentially his first solo album…

So there you go…I’ll have to do this more often, as that was a lot of fun!
