A Dashing Friday 5!!

Micachu & The Shapes – “Golden Phone” from Jewellery
Small and sprightly as she may be, Mica “Micachu” Levi’s music pack a wallop.  An outlandish blend of pop, electronica and experimental music, her debut album is impossibly eclectic for someone who’s just 21.  Not for the faint of heart, the glitchy schisms of her songs demand attention, as do her unusual performance styles, like playing guitars with broken bottles and vacuum cleaners.

Cowboy Mouth – “Jenny Says” from Are You With Me?
Led by drummer/ex-Dash Rip Rock leader Fred LeBlanc, Cowboy Mouth were never quite as twangy as their earlier incarnation, though the country leanings continue to be present in their material.  Their signature song appeared in a few forms throughout their career, most often at the end of their wild live sets.  Their most recent album, Fearless, came out last year.

Cage The Elephant – “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” from Cage The Elephant
This year, this stupid song by this stupid band will be huge.

Luna – “Bonnie & Clyde” from Penthouse
What could be lovelier than Luna covering a Serge Gainsbourg classy classic?  How about if Laetitia from Stereolab joined in on co-lead vocals?  The result is the lovely hidden track from Luna’s most solid album.

10cc – “Honeymoon With B Troop” from Deceptive Bends
After Godley and Creme left to form their own, self-titled project, 10cc was left in the capable (if less experimental) hands of Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman.  The result, 1977’s Deceptive Bends, gave the group one of their biggest hits (“The Things We Do For Love”), as well as a few oddball songs still in the vein of their earlier work (like this song).
