Just Deserts

At Noon here in Philadelphia began XPN’s latest countdown: 885 Desert Island Songs, as voted by members, listeners, hosts and staff. Since none of them have showed up on the list so far, here is my personal list of ten for the record:

  1. Weather Report – Birdland
  2. John Cale – Paris 1919
  3. Massive Attack – Safe From Harm
  4. XTC – No Thugs In Our House
  5. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – The Weeping Song
  6. The Clash – The Magnificent Seven
  7. Elvis Costello & The Attractions – Beyond Belief
  8. Sparks – The No. 1 Song In Heaven
  9. Art Of Noise – Close (To The Edit)
  10. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 – The Message

Though I have no knowledge of what is or is not on the list (at least, not yet), I can guarantee you that not all of my songs will appear on the final list. After all, who else listens to the Art Of Noise anymore?

You can follow along on the Countdown’s website, and leave a comment if you’ve got some songs you can’t live without.

One Response to “Just Deserts”

  1. And then I show up with MY list….

    1. One More Summer – The Rainmakers
    2. Indian Reservation – Paul Revere and the Raiders
    3. Sing Sing Sing – Benny Goodman and His Orchestra
    4. King of Rock – RUN DMC (since you are bringing “The Message”)
    5. Minnie the Moocher – Cab Calloway
    6. March of the Black Queen – Queen
    7. Casbah – Los Straitjackets
    8. Death or Glory – The Clash
    9. Life is a Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) – Reunion
    10. If I had Possession Over Judgement Day – Robert Johnson

Yeah, I could listen to these songs (and yours, except for the one by Art of Noise) while stranded on a Desert Island.
